(Freeport, TX) — Texas prison officials are crediting some officers for finding nearly 18-million dollars’ worth of cocaine hiding in boxes of bananas that were bound for prisoners.
Two sergeants from the Wayne Scott Unit at Ports America in Freeport, were sent to collect two pallets of bananas that were being given to the prison because they had already ripened. One of the banana boxes felt different, so the sergeants opened it and found a bundle of white powdery substance under the fruits.
Port authorities conducted a detailed search and found 540 packages of cocaine. Police are investigating.
