(CLEBURNE, TX) – An assault on an officer, an alleged kidnapping and a high-speed chase put a Hillsboro man in jail.
The Cleburne Times Review reports police had gotten a call about a woman was being held against her will at a home in Cleburne. Before they got there, the suspect, Jack Lanier Vereen II took off in a car with the woman. During the pursuit, police say Vereen drove towards an officer standing in the roadway, trying to get him to stop. He then drove off at a high rate of speed before being pulled over. Vereen was taken into custody for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest. Neither the woman or the officer was injured.
