(Fort Worth, TX) — The 9-year-old girl at the center of a court battle over whether she should stay on life support, has now died.
Payton Summons died Friday evening, hours after her parents won a court victory to keep her on a ventilator. The girl had been declared brain-dead in September. Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth wanted to take her off life support, but her parents wanted to keep her on while they looked for another hospital to care for her. Payton’s heart stopped beating not long after a judge ruled in favor of extending a temporary restraining order against the hospital.
More than 100 people gathered last night for a candlelight vigil at McFalls East Park in Grand Prairie where Payton played softball.
