(FORT WORTH, TX) – Closing arguments are taking place today in the trial of a Parker County man involved in a shootout that left a Fort Worth officer critically wounded 2 years ago.

Ed McIver Jr. is facing three charges in connection with the 2016 shooting of Officer Matt Pearce.  Pearce was shot seven times and critically wounded by McIver’s father, Ed Russell McIver Sr., following a traffic stop that led to a high-speed chase.  McIver Sr, a wanted felon, was killed in that gun battle.  The younger McIver fled the scene but was captured a short time later in a wooded area.  A grand jury declined in 2016 to indict the son on an attempted capital murder charge.  Last May, however, he was again brought up on charges of tampering with evidence, interfering with police officers and fleeing arrest, in connection with the case.

If found guilty, McIver Jr. could get up to 10 years in prison.
