(Cleburne, TX) – The City of Cleburne has shut down a pet shop over years of allegations of animal abuse.

According to the Cleburne Times Review, The Pet Depot was closed down on Friday due to unsanitary and overcrowded cages in which the animals were kept.  In 2016 the shop originally located in the Nolan River Mall closed for unknown reasons but re-opened in 2017 at a new location on Henderson Street.  Cleburne Animal Services Manager Mindy Henry said the pet store should not have reopened in the first place.

Officials from the Humane Society of North Texas were on hand to help remove the animals during the seizure of the business.  Adoptions will not be available until after a court hearing, which could be in about two weeks.
