(Austin, TX) — Today is the first of the 140 days that the 86th Texas legislature will meet.
A couple of the big issues lawmakers plan to debate are public school funding and property taxes. Public school reform is the subject of many of the nearly one-thousand bills that lawmakers have submitted so far. In addition to education and property tax reform, health care will get a lot of attention.
Issues likely to be discussed include mental health and women’s health care, as well as the possible legalization of medical marijuana.
