(Fort Worth, TX) — The Fort Worth Police Department is firing five officers and suspending two others after a suspect in custody died of a drug overdose last summer.
Acting Chief Ed Kraus moved against the officers yesterday after an investigation found the officers left Christopher Lowe handcuffed in the back of a patrol car when he started to complain about medical issues. When they checked on him later, the 55-year-old Lowe was unresponsive. Lowe later died of cocaine intoxication, according to the medical examiner.
The officers’ attorney said they’ll appeal. A grand jury may consider criminal charges against the seven officers
