(Plano, TX) — Dr Pepper wants to be the official soft drink of Texas.
Like many other states, Texas doesn’t have an official soft drink, but the makers of Dr Pepper say their fizzy beverage should get the nod. The Texas State Historical Association says Dr Pepper may be the oldest soft drink in the nation. A Waco pharmacist created it in 1885 at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store and it’s been bottled since 1891. Dr Pepper has started a petition on Change-dot-org, asking for people’s support. More than 16,000 people have signed the petition so far.
