(Stephenville, TX) – Tarleton State University’s women’s athletic programs says they will no longer be known as the TexAnns.
The women are instead opting to be known as the Texans, just like the men’s program. The University made the announcement over the weekend saying all 14 men’s and women’s teams will unite under the name Texan starting in August. Three members of the Tarleton women’s basketball team led a student driven initiative to make the change.
Tarleton’s female student-athletes began playing on the intercollegiate level in 1968 and became the TexAnns in the 1969-70 season.
