(Washington, DC)  —  The U.S. Senate is considering a bill to issue one-dollar coins honoring the late former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara.

Sponsors include Republican Senator Susan Collins and independent Senator Angus King, both of Maine, and GOP Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, both of Texas.  President and Mrs. Bush lived in both Texas and Maine prior to their deaths last year.  Both are buried at the Bush Presidential Library in College Station.

The Senate bill calls for the U.S. Treasury to issue the coins this year.
