(Fort Worth, TX) — The pension fund for Fort Worth city employees is warding off bankruptcy, thanks to a new agreement.

The retirement fund had been in danger of running out of money as soon as 20 years from now with a shortfall of more than a billion-dollars.  Police, fire and civilian workers and retirees voted Monday to accept a compromise deal approved by the city council in December.  Eligible pension fund members and taxpayers will contribute slightly more each year to shore up the fund.

The agreement keeps state lawmakers from getting involved.
