(White Settlement, TX) — A 40-year-old White Settlement man says he shot his roommate, then shot him again “so he wouldn’t suffer.”

WFAA TV reports that Jeffrey Cory admitted he shot Erik Fernandez last week in their shared apartment on Kimbrough Street, then waited two days before calling police.  During an argument, Cory says he shot Fernandez in the face, then “popped him in the back of the head to make sure he was dead.”  He says he drug the body into his roommate’s bedroom and then drove to a nearby lake to dispose of the gun.  Cory claims the first shot was an accident while struggling over the gun, but the second shot wasn’t.

Cory is facing a murder charge, and he’s locked up in the Tarrant County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
