(Granbury, Tx) – 15-year-old Wesley Barefoot and his Boy Scout Troop #360 have partnered with the City of Granbury to put a life jacket station at City Beach Park.

According to the Hood County News, for his Eagle Scout Service Project, Barefoot approached the city with the idea of an unmanned life-jacket loaner station at the popular swimming area.  The station, built by the Scouts, is now in place at the beach and anyone swimming there can borrow a life jacket.  The city says proceeds from the Parks and Recreation Department’s annual “Run For Your Peeps 5K” will be used to buy new life jackets each year and cover maintenance costs for the loaner station.

Since 2010, there have been four drownings at City Beach Park.  There are no lifeguards are on duty.
