(Wise County, Tx) – A surprising discovery was made Sunday afternoon by a man cutting down a tree north of Boonsville.

According to the Wise County Messenger, a MK23 marker round was found inside a hollowed-out tree.  An Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to the scene to investigate and dispose of it.  it turned out not to be active, but it’s believed the ammunition had been in the tree for 88 years.  The man’s grandfather was in the military and there was a rumor that there was a bomb in the tree.

One residence was evacuated, and a 300-foot perimeter was established as a precaution during the investigation and removal.
