(Undated) —  Texas could soon let anyone who owns a handgun be armed for a week after a natural disaster.

The bill would allow any Texans who can legally own a firearm carry a gun for seven days after a natural disaster, even if they don’t have a permit.  Supporters say this would help people protect themselves and their property against looting after disasters.

The bill is now on Governor Abbott’s desk.
