(Hood County, Tx) – The body of a Hood County woman was recovered from the Brazos River, authorities say an apparent drowning victim.

According to the Hood County Sheriff’s Office 61-year-old Marilyn Shields was pitched into the swift running water of the Brazos when her kayak overturned Sunday afternoon.  Shields body and kayak was found in brush near Pecan Bridge, not far from where she lived in Pecan Plantation.

Sheriff Roger Deeds said Shields was wearing a life jacket, but the current in the Brazos was just too strong from all the recent rain.  In fact, during the recovery operation a Granbury Firefighter’s boat flipped over, but no one was injured.
