New State Park In The Planning Stages In Palo Pinto County

(Strawn, TX) — A new state park is in the works within easy driving distance of the western half of the Metroplex.

For several years now, funding from state legislators has been the sticking point for creating the 44-hundred-acre Palo Pinto Mountains State Park near Strawn. The appropriations bill recently agreed on by the House and Senate allocates more than $12-million to develop the park.

But the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says the park will still need about 8 to 10 million dollars from private donations in order to able to open.
