(Fort Worth, TX) — Some Fort Worth activist are calling for changes after four officer-involved shootings in ten days.
At a meeting Monday night at Texas Wesleyan University, people suggested a community oversight board should look into the Fort Worth PD. The latest officer-involved shooting was Sunday night, when police fatally shot 20-year-old felony suspect Jaquavion Slaton. Slayton was wanted by campus police at the University of Texas at Tyler for a domestic violence assault in April involving a handgun.
According to a statement from Fort Worth Police, the suspect refused to comply with the officers’ orders as they tried to get him out of a truck he was hiding in. Three officers fired at Slaton, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say they have evidence that supports Slaton fired his gun.
