(Tarrant County, TX) — A Tarrant County deputy’s cause of death is now being called a medical emergency, not a shooting as originally reported.
The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that a pulmonary embolism and some blood clots led to the death of Sergeant Keith Shepherd. It was widely reported Shepherd was found with a gunshot wound to his head Friday evening inside his police vehicle at a downtown Fort Worth parking garage. Officials now say Shepherd likely fell and hit his head before climbing into the car.
Shepherd was a 19-year veteran of the force. He was the third member of North Texas area law enforcement to die within a week.
