(Austin, TX) — The Bowie knife is not the official blade of Texas, following Gov. Greg Abbott’s veto of a bipartisan bill to that effect.
Abbott says the problem with the bill is that it contained a historical error. It claimed Jim Bowie’s famous “Sandbar fight” of 1827 took place near Natchez, Louisiana, but the actual location was near Natchez, Mississippi.
Abbott declined to sign the “factually incorrect resolution,” but encouraged the legislature to try again next session.
