(Dallas, TX) — A lightning strike is being blamed for a communications breakdown at Dallas Love Field and DFW International Airport on Sunday evening.

Flights out of both airports were suspended for the duration of the problem, which started shortly after 7:30 p.m.  The Federal Aviation Administration says communications were completely restored just before 10 p.m.  Several flights were diverted to other airports, partly because of the storms that were in North Texas.  Cancellations and delays started to grow this morning at DFW Airport due to the complications from Sunday’s severe storms.  The flight tracking website FlightAware showed more than 180 canceled flights with around 40 delays.

As of 8:30 this morning, Oncor reported more than 32,000 power outages, most of those in Tarrant County.  Outages are also being reported in Johnson, Hood, Parker and Palo Pinto Counties.  A lightning strike may be to blame for a two-alarm fire overnight at a nightclub on I-35W in South Fort Worth.
