(Undated) — Congrats to Arlington’s Hunter Pence, who went from minor league player to All-Star in one season.

The Ranger’s Designated Hitter was elected to be a starter for the American League All-Star team.  Pence was born in Fort Worth, graduated from Arlington High School then went on to play college ball at UT Arlington.  Pence has not played since June 16th and is on the injured list with a groin strain.  The Rangers are hopeful he could return on Monday.  Texas outfielder Joey Gallo was a finalist, but he finished seventh in the final balloting for starters.

The All-Star Game is July 9th in Cleveland.
