Solar Car Challenge In Progress At TMS

(Fort Worth, TX) — The annual Solar Car Challenge is in progress at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Teams of high schoolers from nationwide, including 16 from North Texas, are participating. The teams must design, finance, and build their own solar-powered cars. They then race the vehicles around the track for six hours, and the team with the best time wins. After preliminaries late last week, the races started on Monday. They continue through Thursday, with the awards banquet that evening.

A lot of the racers go on to study STEM in college.
