(Hood County, Tx) – Hundreds of dead fish have been seen floating down the Brazos River, downstream from De Cordova Bend Dam at Lake Granbury.

The Brazos River Authority says the fish kill happened on July 22nd due to a lack of oxygen in the water.  BRA says the closing of flood gates at Possum Kingdom Lake after 3 months of water releases due to heavy spring rains, caused a lack of dissolved oxygen below the dam structure, resulting in the die-off of hundreds of fish.  Rising temperatures are also a factor.  The fish kill is not the because of toxins in the water.

Authorities are warning against swimming in the Brazos near dead fish and say the dead or dying fish should not be eaten.
