(Granbury, Tx) – Brazos River Authority confirms algae issues have not been reported at Lake Granbury.

Reports of dog deaths across the country have been linked to toxic blue-green algae this summer in various bodies of water.  Jenna Olson, Environmental Programs Coordinator for the BRA, tells the Hood County News that blue-green algae can live in any freshwater but has never been detected at Lake Granbury.  She says Green algae is the dominant algae at Lake Granbury.

Toxic blue-green algae can affect the nervous system, liver and kidneys in humans and animals. It’s especially dangerous for dogs, because they drink the water or ingest the blooms by licking themselves.
