(Keene, TX) — The town of Keene in Johnson County is one of nearly two-dozen Texas towns whose computers were attacked with ransomware last Friday.

City employees thought the server was down at first, but state and federal officials soon told them Keene had been hit by a cyberattack.  For now, about 65-hundred people in Keene can’t pay court fees or water bills on the city web site with a credit card.  The city is only taking cash or checks.  Nobody’s personal information was compromised.

State officials have still not said what the hacker wanted.  The FBI and Homeland Security are working with the state on the case.
