New State Laws Take Effect On September 1st

(Austin, TX)  —  A number of new state laws will take effect on September 1st, enacted in the 2019 legislative session.

Children’s lemonade stands will no longer need permits.  You’ll have to be 21 to buy tobacco products.  You’ll have to be 18 to buy cough syrup containing dextromethorphan.  Certain traffic and DWI fines are going up.  Schools can appoint more marshals.  Rape kits will have to be tested within 90 days.

The definitions of hazing and sexual assault are being expanded.  Retailers will be allowed to deliver beer and wine.  Brass knuckles will be legal.
