(Erath County, Tx) – A 92-year-old Erath County man died Monday in a grassfire after his truck became stuck in a field on FM 2481 near the community of Pony Creek.

According to the Stephenville Empire Tribune, the victim Leroy Worrell, was out checking his cows when his truck became stuck.  The Sheriff’s Office says firefighters arrived on scene to discover a truck in the burn area with a deceased man inside.

Investigators believe Worrell was trying to get the truck unstuck, when his catalytic converter started the fire.  His death has been ruled an accident.
