(Washington, DC) — Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn’s comments at the White House are raising some eyebrows.
Waybourn complained on Thursday about a recent federal court ruling banning the use of databases that sometimes lead to the detention of citizens. Waybourn says the ruling endangers the public. He said illegal immigrants are often arrested in Tarrant County for DWI, adding “Those drunks will run over your children.”
Several lawmakers say the sheriff should apologize for what they claim are race-based remarks. The Sheriff’s Office says Waybourn was specifically talking about current inmates in the jail under an ICE hold.
