(Graford, Tx) – Next month, voters in Graford will decide on a $49.6 million bond package to build a new school to replace the current aging facility.

Graford ISD officials tell the Mineral Wells Index, when faced with repairs and renovations to the old existing building that houses pre-K through 12th grade, parts of which date back to 1939, that a new construction was the better option.  With 350 students, the district is currently having to use several detached portable buildings as extra classrooms.  Administrators say building a new school could eventually house 550 students with up-to-date technology, security and energy-efficient systems and a tornado shelter large enough to accommodate the entire student body.

If approved, the plan is to build the new school on 60 acres located just west of the new athletics complex.  The proposition goes before GISD voters on the Nov. 5 ballot.
