(Granbury, Tx) – The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation of a boating death involving former Granbury City Councilman Gary Couch.

The Hood County News reports the Granbury Police Department handed the case over to the DPS in order to avoid “any questions about Mr. Couch’s former status as a city councilman.”  Granbury Police add that there is “still no evidence” the victim, 45-year-old Donald Zimmerman’s death last month was anything more than an accidental drowning.

Zimmerman was one of three passengers on Couch’s boat and somehow went overboard on the night of Saturday, Sept. 21st.  His body was pulled from Lake Granbury two days later.  Couch was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated in connection with the incident.
