(Washington, DC) — The Department of Defense is awarding a $34 billion contract to Lockheed Martin to build nearly 500 F-35 fighter jets.

The planes are built in Fort Worth and come in three different versions – one each for the Navy, Marines and Air Force.  The Pentagon pointed out there was nearly a 13% cost reduction in the deal to deliver 478 jets.
