Ex-FW Police Chief Testifies In Injunction Hearing

(Dallas, TX) — Former Fort Worth Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald is testifying in a court hearing looking to determine if the city can hire a new top cop.

Fitzgerald told a judge Tuesday, city officials labeled his firing as a “general discharge” meaning he hasn’t been able to find a new job. He believes he should have been given an “honorable discharge.” Fitzgerald also suggested he was let go in May because Fort Worth officials were unhappy he was investigating whether the city was violating federal regulations.

The city says Fitzgerald was fired because he didn’t show good judgment. He’s sued the city.
