(Austin, TX) — A proposal by the Texas Department of Public Safety would allow people with minor criminal convictions to be licensed for security work.
People with a record of things like single DWI offenses or single counts of pot possession would be able to work as security guards, private detectives, alarm installers, and locksmiths. The DPS proposed the rule change in late October.
It has the support of the Institute for Justice, which says states with lighter licensing burdens have lower recidivism rates because people with a record can still find work.
