(Fort Worth, Tx) – Despite complaints by activist and months of research, the Fort Worth Art Commission has determined that a controversial, historic mural should remain on the Will Rogers Auditorium.

The 1936 mural depicts the history of agriculture in Fort Worth and Texas.  The controversy surrounds a section of the mural that shows two black men picking cotton.  The Art Commission says with the help of Fort Worth Historic Preservation they determined the men were sharecroppers, not slaves.  The NAACP recommends that historical context should be added.

The final decision lies with the Fort Worth City Council.  It’s unknown if or when they will take up the issue of the mural.
