(Dallas, TX)  —  The Dallas Mavericks are retiring the number 24.

The team announced its decision in honor of Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash in California on Sunday morning.  The Mavericks’ statement added: “Kobe’s legacy transcends basketball.”
