(Undated) — Farmers in Texas will soon start to grow hemp as a cash crop.
Governor Greg Abbott signed the hemp bill into law last June. It authorized the production, manufacture, inspection, and retail sale of industrial hemp crops and products in Texas. Hemp products contain CBD, which is said to have medicinal uses, but are low in THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. Recreational pot smoking is still illegal in Texas.
State officials say licenses to grow hemp crops and manufacture hemp products could be available by March.
