(Fort Worth, TX) — The planned renovation of the Fort Worth convention center will involve tearing down the center’s iconic arena.
The “spaceship shaped” Tarrant County arena has been a downtown landmark for more than 50 years and has been the site of concerts by artists from Elvis to Led Zeppelin to the Rolling Stones, The Eagles and Garth Brooks.
Then-candidate Donald Trump held a campaign rally there in 2016. Mayor Betsy Price approved the design team for the project this month. The one thing known about the new design is that the arena will be demolished and its space repurposed.
The city hopes to complete the project by 2025.
