(Austin, TX) — A delay in the 2020 census count may lead to a delay in the redistricting of congressional and state legislative districts in Texas.
The Census Bureau is asking for a four-month delay in completing the count because of the coronavirus outbreak. The deadline for delivering redistricting data to the states would also be pushed back at least four months, to July 31st, 2021.
That’s after the end of next year’s session of the Texas Legislature, so a special redistricting session would have to meet in the summertime.
