(Austin, TX) — HEB and several other grocery chains are being sued for reportedly price-gouging on eggs.
A group of shoppers filed a federal lawsuit in Austin that claims grocery stores, farms and wholesalers have nearly tripled the price of eggs since Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in March because of the pandemic.
Texas-based HEB, Brookshire’s and Lowe’s Markets are defendants, along with Costco, Albertsons, Walmart and Kroger. HEB denies the claim, saying they’ve sold eggs at a loss rather than pass along their higher cost to customers.
In North Texas, HEB has locations in Burleson, Cleburne, Granbury, Hudson Oaks and Stephenville. Loew’s Markets operate in Hico, Jacksboro, Wichita Falls and 5 locations in Wise County.
