Former Miss America, NFL Today Host Phyllis George Dies

(Undated) — A former Miss America and a pioneer for women in sports broadcasting is dead.

Phyllis George was 70.  She died on Friday due to complications from a blood disorder.  The Texas-native was crowned Miss America in 1971 before joining NFL Today in 1975 where she would work alongside Brent Musburger, Irv Cross and Jimmy the Greek.  She would later co-anchor the CBS Morning News.  In addition to her television credits, she had a cosmetics line and authored five books.

George was born in Denton and went to both TCU and the UNT.
