(Austin, TX) — Governor Greg Abbott says to-go sales of alcohol from Texas restaurants may be here to stay.

Abbott signed a waiver in March allowing restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages to go, in an effort to help them stay in business during the pandemic shutdowns.  The waiver’s May 1st expiration date has been extended till further notice.  Abbott has tweeted a couple of times, most recently on Saturday, that he supports making to-go sales permanent.

One state Representative says he’ll introduce a bill to that effect when the state Legislature reconvenes in January.
