No Action Taken On Removal Of Weatherford Confederate Statute

(Weatherford, Tx) – It was a packed house for Monday’s Parker County Commissioners’ Court meeting for a discussion on whether or not to remove the Confederate monument that sits on the courthouse lawn…. and who it actually belongs to.

The Parker County chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy sent a letter to County Judge Pat Deen claiming they own the statue of the Confederate, and asked that it be removed from the Weatherford courthouse to another location.  However, the president of the Texas division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy say they have jurisdiction over all chapters and own all statues that have not been gifted to a city, county or other entity.

Commissioners’ opted to table the discussion until ownership of the statue could be determined, before deciding on whether to take it down.
