(Fort Worth, TX)  —  A new ranking by the Washington Monthly says John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth leads the nation in saving both lives and money.

Tarrant County owns JPS, which has an annual budget of more than a billion-dollars.  About 70-percent of its patients have trouble paying their hospital bills.  JPS chief executive Robert Earley says they don’t ask patients what their financial situation is.

The D.C.-based magazine ranked Dallas’s Parkland Hospital in ninth place, and Cleburne’s Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital at 18th.
