(Austin, TX) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is releasing legal guidance on school reopenings.
Paxton says it should be up to school officials to decide if and when in-person classes happen instead of local health authorities. Paxton did say local health authorities have some authority to close schools on a case-by-case basis but cannot issue blanket orders.
Public schools were ordered to follow the Texas Education Agency’s guidelines regarding coronavirus while private schools were encouraged to establish similar protocols.
