(New Boston, TX) — A city in northeast Texas is suing two major streaming platforms over utility fees.
New Boston and its residents say Netflix and Hulu should be paying the city five-percent of their local gross revenue as a fee. The streamers are using broadband infrastructure to provide their services to the city.
The city argues that the state requires video service providers to file applications with the Public Utility Commission of Texas for certification, and both streamers failed to do that.
