(Austin, TX)  —  Gov. Greg Abbott says a Wylie ISD teacher who recently compared police officers to KKK members and slave owners should be fired.

The teacher assigned a lesson to 400 eighth-grade students that included a political cartoon that made the comparison.  The school district apologized to the Fraternal Order of Police and removed the assignment.

Abbott tweeted that the teacher should be fired, and the Texas Education Agency should investigate and “take action.”

A teacher in a Texas public school comparing police officers to the KKK is beyond unacceptable.

It’s the opposite of what must be taught.

The teacher should be fired.
