(Austin, TX)  —  A North Texas lawmaker wants to revoke the state law that gives homeowners the right to shoot to protect their property.

State Rep. Terry Meza of Irving feels it encourages people to open fire, even for minor offenses.  The bill she filed in the Texas Legislature would change the state’s Castle Doctrine.  It has already drawn a swift rebuke from gun rights groups.

The NRA says Texas should instead expand property owners’ protections against lawless looters and rioters.
