North Texas Gets New Area Code

(Dallas, TX) — North Texas is getting a new area code in the new year.

Numbers starting with 9-4-5 will start being assigned on January 15th. The new number is due to the growing population and will allow mobile carriers to keep assigning new phone numbers to customers. Existing phone numbers will keep their area codes.

The first area code, 2-1-4, was assigned to the region in 1947.
