(Austin, TX)  —  A special election to fill a vacant seat in the Texas House is now scheduled for next month.

By order of Gov. Greg Abbott, the election for the successor of state Rep. Drew Springer is set for January 23rd.  Springer is a Republican who recently won the Dist 30 seat in the Texas Senate.  He replaced Sen. Pat Fallon, also a Republican, who was elected to the U.S. Congress.

The deep-red District 68 stretches from DFW to the Panhandle.  The candidate filing deadline is next Monday, and at least two Republicans are already in the running.

State Dist 68 is one of the largest and includes Jack, Young and Throckmorton Counties.
